It truly is the old part of town. Old Town is considered the birthplace of California.In 1769 Father Junipero Serra established the first mission, Presidio was built overlooking what is now Old Town. In the 1820's a small Mexican Community was formed and in 1846, a U.S. Navy Lieutenant and a Marine Lieutenant raised the American Flag. There are many museums, restaurants, and shops. Old Town is a pretty colorful place to spend an afternoon.
There are many Mexican Restaurants in town (Old Town) to choose from. Cafe Coyote 2461 San Diego Avenue, is always a busy one. Fred's Mexican Cafe at 2470 San Diego Avenue, Old Town is a favorite as well.
